Art museums are soft targets for lazy "revolutionaries." It's really easy to attack something that is for the public good; by doing so the protesters are only going to make them spend money on security that could go to public outreach. How about gluing yourself to a gas pump at Costco?
David, thank you for your thoughts. Gluing yourself to a gas pump seems to be symbolically more cogent. But would it garner the headlines that these demonstrators are wanting?
I think it’s an ineffective way to protest climate change. I personally find it more effective to make the changes in daily routine & focus on changes that you can make yourself. Vote with your dollars. If people stopped supporting certain corporations, items, etc. changes would have to be made. On the flip side, I think it’s easier to have the media vilify these groups of people than it is to actually do anything about them/handle them. Mainstream media is a puppet -- bought and paid to spew whatever trash “they” want us to read. Why else would Jeff Bezos own The Washington Post?
Ally, thank you for your thoughts. Do you think that we can sufficiently mitigate climate change through our personal choices? Governments set energy, agriculture, and transportation policies, all of which affect global heating. How are we to influence that? The protests of suffragettes won women the vote. Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement ended Jim Crow. Protests do work.
I guess when I said they were ineffective I meant alone, I think they are. Long term and consistent change will have to come from the masses. If for *one* day no one showed up for work...I think we’d get the attention of our governments to start making the changes we wish to see. I think collectively, we forget that the government is supposed to work FOR us and not just control us.
Just my two cents. I’m sure there are a ton of different ideas that would help contribute to help these causes. The things I try to be mindful of in regards to the environment: the clothing I buy (material & where it’s made), I drive an EV, live within my means in terms of the size of my house, I have solar panels, and I try to not over consume. We can all start somewhere.

Ally, if there were more people like you, we wouldn't be in this mess!
