I meant to comment on this earlier - the thing that's made the most difference to me in terms of food waste is meal planning. I sit down once a week and decide what I'm going to make. It takes a bit of up-front effort but saves having to make decisions when I'm tired and hungry. And it definitely saves money and waste.

Melanie, meal planning is a great and often overlooked way to save on food waste and save money. That really works to keep things out of landfill. Although even with planning, I've found that there are still celery, rutabaga halves, left over cabbage, and bits of soups and sauces left over in the refrigerator. Hence the refigerator soup.
