David, yes. I'm reminded of the low sodium street lights that San Diego installed several years ago. I don't know if there is any data from that time, but it would be worth looking into.
Also, the data for this study was from radar, which gets the big migration numbers but doesn't get information on the species level. It would be nice to see how this breaks down for individual species.

Earthmonk, thanks so much for your link. I was unaware of any effect nighttime light had on trees, but it makes sense.
The experiment would be to find a city that was willing to go dark(er) for a few weeks during migration and see if it had an effect.
