Humans First should probably take a look at the administration’s policies on AI, and trump’s own blundering statements. What I mostly hear from the right is a budding conspiracy that the Chinese are fomenting AI opposition here so that they can get a technological leg up
Yes! I've heard that from my Maga friends, that all the opposition is being stoked by China so that the U.S. winds up technologically deficient. It reminds me of the mythology during the Vietnam War, that all the peace protests in the U.S. were being covertly stoked by North Vietnam.
Humans First is a very curious development. I just don't know what they are trying to accomplish and why.
Another part of this story is that our politicians--left and right--have sold us out on AI. What are they getting from this?
New York's legislator passed a one year moratorium on data centers in the state, but will our (dem) governor sign the bill? She has been coy. Then there are the blue governors of Maine and Virginia embracing data centers. Why?
You're absolutely right, Sari. I'm not hearing a clear message from any politician, left or right, when it comes to people's concerns about data centers. Also, I'm suspicious about short term moratoria. Does it mean business as usual after a year or so?
In Northern Virginia, there is a threat of encroaching on a suburban neighborhood's backyards. NVIDIA released a waterless cooling system prototype, but it is far from waterless and is costly and not likely to replace the water cost anywhere.
